How To Use Word Press

Lets get a little deeper into this landscape marketing tutorial…

Get it here

1.1   Install a Word Press blog on your server. This is not vital. A lot of sites rank without a blog.  However, they are older sites, with a lot of pages. If your site is not on at least page 3 on the SERP’s for your keyword, install a Word Press blog. It is well worth it. The SE’s love Word Press and as it is an open source software, programmers have built loads of applications to improve on the original platform.  Name your blog with a keyword, such as www.BobsLawnCare/Denver-Lawn-Care.com Make your permalink structure more SEO friendly and keyword fat.  Your default link structure in Word Press would be: http://www.BobsLawnCare.com/DenverLawnCare/?=1

1.2   An optimized permalink would look like: http://wwwDenverLawnCare.com/landscaping/YourDenverlawn,

To change your permalink settings, in your Word Press admin area click on Settings, then Permalinks. The default radio button will be automatically checked. Change it to Custom, then copy this code into custom:  /%category%/%postname%/ like the photo below.

Here is a good video on how to install a Word Press blog on your server:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LoVDWImq7Y

You will also want to install the Word Press SEO plugin that you can get here

If you don’t want to do this yourself, you can contact us here, and we will give you a good deal on installing it for you with the ALL the best recommended SEO plug-ins ($97.00 ).

If by chance you do not yet have a website, I suggest you build a “static” Word Press site like this one or this one or this one we did for clients. They are on- page SEO optimized right out of the gate and they are Word Press blogs (they just doesn’t look like one), so no need to install it.  Notice the  in the top right corner? More on this later.

If you want us to make a static WordPress website for you, just contact us HERE.

1.2 Install a Google xml sitemap on your blog. Get the Word Press plug-in here, then ping your sitemap here.  You should also optimize your automated update service (or ping list).  “Out of the box” Word Press has limited pinging resources. Every time you submit a new post, Word Press notifies the update services which will bring the spiders.  Paste this list of update services into the Update Service Box in the admin area:

1.3 Once you have your blog up and optimized, start posting!  Two short posts per week (200 words) are better than two book length posts per month.  Consistency, titles and tagging are the key. I have clients tell me all the time, “I can’t think of anything to write about” Not a problem.  Let Google tell you what to write about.  Go to Google Alerts, type in the subject matter relevant to what you do (lawn care, brick pavers landscape lighting, etc), and Google will send you a daily email about what has been written on the subject in the past 24 hours.  Open a link, read it, and then re-writes it, based on your geographic area.  Search what has been written on your keywords at www.ezinearticles.com .  There is more material relating to your subject on the ‘net, waiting for your unique spin, than you could ever exhaust in your lifetime. Make sure your title and text are at least 30% different.  If you are unsure whether or not your new post passes the 30% threshold, after posting compare your post to the original URL that you re-wrote at www.copyscape.com.  With some little steps and 15 minutes, it becomes very easy.  You have no excuse, unless you like having your website buried with a “Here Lies Website X” headstone on page thirty.  It’s 15 minutes, twice a week. Just do it, or quit complaining about being #6 on page 29 of Google, otherwise known as “dead.” Believe it or not, once you get past the “pain” of blogging (like jogging), you’ll start to like it! Adding fresh content to your site on a continual basis is absolutely crucial to your success. If you just don’t have the time or won’t do it for some other reason, we can do it for you. 1.4     Claim your blog at Technorati.com and Yahoo’s MyBlogLog.com.  These sites will generate a piece of code that you paste in your blog. Once they visit and recognize it, you will be listed (linked.)

Hey, just so you know, this is the hardest part (installing the Word Press) to getting your site ranked. After that, it is just typing.

This should keep you busy for an hour or so. Next time, we’ll talk about how to write  Word Press posts that get “Google Love.”
